Embracing Sensitivity: The Art of Creative Expression

Have you ever experienced a moment of profound connection through music or art? A moment that resonated deep within your soul, evoking emotions and stirring something profound within you. At the Open (air) Anahata Festival, as part of the sound healing duo Project Mariri, I encountered such a moment that illuminated the essence of sensitivity over mere talent.

Unveiling the True Essence

Deep in the heart of the festival grounds, where the music danced in harmony with the gentle evening breeze, we set up our instruments for a Soundbath session. As we immersed ourselves in the melody, a listener captivated by our sound approached us. A comment that followed struck a deep chord within me: "You have incredible talent!" Yet, my response, "This is not talent; this is sensitivity," encapsulated the core of what we were attempting to convey through our music.

The Impact of Trauma on Our Connection to Self

Trauma, in its various forms, can profoundly disconnect us from ourselves. It's a narrowing of our perception of the world and a severing of the vital connection to our bodies. When we experience trauma, our ability to listen to our gut feelings and follow them becomes impaired. We may find ourselves operating on autopilot, disconnected from our true emotions and needs.Feelings of shame, often accompanying traumatic experiences, further alienate us from our authentic selves. We may begin to doubt our instincts, suppress our emotions, and lose touch with the very essence of who we are. This disconnection can manifest as a sense of numbness, difficulty in identifying and expressing emotions, or feeling like a stranger in our own skin.

Sensitivity: A Path Back to Self

Sensitivity, far from being a weakness, is a powerful tool for reconnection and healing. It's a skill that can be developed and nurtured, offering a pathway back to our true selves. By cultivating sensitivity, we begin to tune into the subtle signals our body and emotions are constantly sending us.Through creative expression and practices that enhance our sensitivity, we can:

  1. Reconnect with our physical sensations, learning to interpret and respond to our body's signals.

  2. Develop a deeper understanding of our emotional landscape, recognizing and honoring our feelings.

  3. Enhance our intuition, trusting our inner guidance system.

This group will meet every Wednesday and is designed to help you reconnect with your senses and body, expanding your range of play and self-expression. Priced affordably at $25 per session, the program includes ten group sessions of two hours each, along with two one-hour intake and exit interviews.
